‘Look at His Great Television Ratings’: Trump Issues Statement on Spicer’s Resignation

Sarah Huckabee Sanders began today’s White House press briefing by reading a statement from President Trump in response to the resignation of Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

“I’m grateful for Sean’s work on my behalf of my administration and the American people, I wish him continued success as he moves on to pursue new opportunities. Just look at his great television ratings.”

Sanders went on to say that Spicer will continue to work with the administration for the next several weeks, and she spoke about how Trump welcomed Anthony Scaramucci to the White House as a “great addition” to the administration.

When the news broke about Spicer’s resignation, it was reported that he resigned out of anger that Trump appointed Scaramucci to become the new White House Communications Director. Earlier today, Spicer told the press that he was leaving in order to give the White House a “clean slate.”

Interestingly enough, Trump brought up Spicer’s TV ratings months ago as he talked about how he had no intention of firing his press secretary.
