Maddow: Rand Paul Handling Plagiarism Scandal So Badly, Hometown Press is Turning on Him

Rachel Maddow will NOT let this Rand Paul plagiarism thing go. This time, the angle she took was the way the scandal is being received in Paul’s home state of Kentucky. The answer? Not so good.

Maddow briefly recapped the newest revelation from BuzzFeed about additional instances of plagiarism in Paul’s book, and as Paul “continues to publicly unravel,” as she put it, his hometown press isn’t exactly doing him any favors with their coverage.

She read from an editorial in the Lexington Herald-Leader, which endorsed Paul back in the 2010 Republican primary, and read, in part, “Paul appears to believe profoundly in his own exceptionalism, including that the rules don’t apply to him.”

And in reaction to Paul suggesting he could just leave politics altogether if this doesn’t go away, the paper basically said, “OK, go.”

Maddow said if this is the kind of press Paul can expect for the rest of 2013, he may very well have to kiss 2016 good-bye.
