Maher Blames Fox News for Polarized America, Seinfeld Pushes Back
Polarization was a big theme of Bill Maher‘s live D.C. show tonight, and he contended that the biggest entity to blame for American polarization is none other than Fox News. Maher said Fox has created a “language barrier” so that the right hears what Maher deemed conservative nonsense.
Governor Haley Barbour said “Fox doesn’t have a monopoly on taking sides,” and noted Maher isn’t exactly a non-partisan guy himself. Jerry Seinfeld also pushed back, saying that “each side just talks to its side,” so it’s silly to blame polarization on Fox News itself.
Maher argued that liberals “like different,” but conservatives just “want to hear the same things over and over” with no variety whatsoever. He also got in a dig at MSNBC’s low ratings compared to Fox (with MSNBC’s own Andrea Mitchell sitting right there at the table).
