Maher: Chelsea Clinton Apologizing to Activists Shows ‘Everything That’s Wrong with the Left Today’

Bill Maher tonight defended Chelsea Clinton and said it’s “insanity” for the students in that now-infamous viral video to confront her over her tweets criticizing Ilhan Omar and saying of the New Zealand mosque shooting that people “died because of the rhetoric you put out there.”

Maher brought it up during a conversation with Irshad Manji, showing the video and saying “50 Muslims get gunned down and Chelsea Clinton is apologizing.”

“If that isn’t a snapshot of everything that’s wrong with the left today,” he said, “I don’t know what is.”

Manji agreed and asked how activists can think people will be more sympathetic to their social justice aims “if this is the way you’re going to treat people.”

“The insanity of connecting Chelsea Clinton’s quote about don’t be anti-Semitic to a couple of weeks later a guy gunning… These are college people,” Maher said.

He was bewildered that Clinton apologized in the first place instead of saying something like “What are you talking about? Get out of my face, you nut.” Manji said it wasn’t a dialogue, it was “I will deliver a monologue to you and you will agree.”

Maher even said the apology was “very Soviet.”
