Maher: Press Needs to ‘Fight to Get Their Reputation Back’ to Be Seen as More Trustworthy than Trump
Bill Maher ended his show tonight by bringing up the recent Fox News poll showing slightly more people think they can trust President Trump more than they can trust the media.
He praised recent pushback in the press against Trump, like Scott Pelley reporting on the president saying things “divorced from reality” and Chuck Todd pushing back against Kellyanne Conway on “alternative facts.”
However, Maher said the press needs to do a lot more to earn back people’s trust, arguing that viewers can be mad at him for giving airtime to Milo Yiannopoulos but the press gave way more attention to a figure like Trump and played him up a lot during the campaign.
“For the sake of the republic,” Maher said, “you gotta get serious again…The news media lost trust because they became eyeball-chasing clickbait whores.”
