HBO Real Time host Bill Maher thinks the best course of action the next time the U.S. is hit with a terrorist attack might just be to forget about it.
Citing a recent report on instability in Afghanistan more than a decade after the U.S. invaded the country to stamp out the Taliban, Maher said on his blog it could be more logical next time there’s a terrorist attack like 9/11 to simply reinforce security measures in the U.S.
“I’m beginning to think that the best reaction to a terrorist attack would be to ask, ‘What would Jesus do?'” Maher wrote, “and then turn the other cheek. And I’m not even a Christian.”
More from Maher’s Monday post:
Is there anyone who doesn’t now think that if we’d reacted to 9/11 by doing nothing but reinforcing cockpit doors and stepping up airline security we’d be better off than we are now? And yet what do you think will be the American reaction the next time we are hit with a terrorist attack? Will we learn from failing in Iraq? Will we learn from failing in Afghanistan? Of course not.
