Corey Knowlton, a co-host of Jim Shockey’s The Professionals on the Outdoor Network, told WFAA, a Dallas ABC affiliate, that he had become the target of death threats ever since winning an auction to hunt a black rhino.
The auction was set up through the Dallas Safari Club. Knowlton said his arm had to be twisted to make the eventual winning bid of $350,000 after higher donors had backed out. He soon learned the cause of their reluctance, as internet death threatz proliferated, forcing Knowlton to obtain security for his family.
Knowlton dismissed criticism of the hunt, arguing that it would focus on an aggressive older male rhino, past repoductive age, that was terrorizing the rest of the herd, and that the funds raised would go toward “anti-poaching patrols, habitat protection, research and other measures crucial for protecting populations of endangered black rhinos.”
“Despite all of the naysayers, despite all of the threats, in a way, we won,” Knowlton said.
