Fox New’s Martha MacCallum had a contentious exchange with Roy Moore campaign spokeswoman Janet Porter over the accusations against her boss.
The two began by discussing the competitive state of the Alabama senate race, as well as the news that Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) confirmed that he did not vote for Moore due to his alleged sexual abuse against minors. MacCallum eventually asked Porter about Moore’s claim of not knowing any of the victims who have publicly accused him of sexual misconduct over the past several weeks.
As Porter pushed back against the allegations, she eventually brought up the recent news that Beverly Nelson, one of Moore’s accusers, made notes to herself underneath the message Moore allegedly wrote in her yearbook years ago. Moore supporters have used this detail to declare Nelson’s entire story fake, and Porter followed suit by declaring the book a “forgery” and Nelson, a “fraud.”
MacCallum tried to rein things in by saying Nelson added the time and place to her yearbook in order to note the context for Moore’s inscription, which doesn’t automatically disprove the entire allegation. When Porter disputed this and raved about how Nelson is a liar, MacCallum admonished the spokeswoman and said “you’re splitting hairs here.”
