Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) spoke with Lou Dobbs tonight to talk about President Donald Trump‘s fight for a border wall in the shutdown negotiations.

But at one point, Gaetz asked a question of Dobbs to lay down how serious they consider the stakes here:

“You usually ask the questions, but let me ask you one: will Donald Trump be reelected in 2020 if he is not standing in front of a border security wall?”

Dobbs responded, “I would put it this way. There are some fights that are worth having. This is a fight that is worth having, because the future of the country depends on it.”

“If this President is not reelected as a result of his insistence on a secure nation, a sovereign nation,” he continued, “and providing for the safety of the American people, then we’ve lost a nation, and it will be a shameful, shameful outcome were he not to be reelected.”

Gaetz then shared some details from a recent discussion he had with the President. He told Dobbs that POTUS said, “I’m gonna fight with everything I have for the forgotten Americans who want a secure border, and if I don’t get it, I’m gonna die with my boots on.”
