Matt Schlapp on Trump-Cohen Tape: ‘Donald Trump Lived a Very Extravagant Life’

American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp weighed in on the newly-released tape of President Donald Trump and his personal attorney Michael Cohen discussing the payoff of former Playboy model Karen McDougal during the 2016 election.

In the tape obtained by CNN from Cohen’s lawyer Lanny Davis, much of it is very unclear. However, you can clearly hear the then-presidential candidate suggest using “cash” for a pending financial transaction that was supposedly keep McDougal silent about their alleged affair back in 2006.

Laura Ingraham asked Schlapp to opine on the “blockbuster” report.

“It seems like we are in the same spot we always were, which is Donald Trump lived a very extravagant life in many ways and everybody knew it because it was on the tabloid press in New York every night of the week,” Schlapp told Ingraham. “The idea that this is a replay to some more detail about that life, I don’t know how that’s instructive on what’s going on in the country today. I think most voters, I think they would come to the same conclusion.”

Democratic commentator Chris Hahn then compared interpreting the Trump-Cohen to the highly-debated “Laurel vs Yanny” audio clip the nation was obsessed with earlier this year, which caused the rest of the panel to erupt in laughter.

“So I don’t know if that’s a crime or anything like that, but I do know that it shows that he lied,” Hahn said of Trump. “And there was a time in this country when the president lied about a sex scandal, it was a big story.”
