Matthews Tears into Obama: ‘Dammit, You Cannot Run a Gov’t on Common Ground!’

Chris Matthews got really peeved today at President Obama‘s post-midterms press conference. He said that the president was being willfully dismissive of last night’s vote and has no interest in accepting that the voters rejected his policies. In fact, Matthews noticed, Obama was a bit passive-aggressive in referring to how two-thirds of voters didn’t turn out at all, basically implying “he didn’t think that was a true American constituency.”

Matthews zoned in on the immigration issue in particular. Obama, he said, will not acknowledge the role immigration played in the national repudiation of Democrats “because it’s not in his interest to admit it.”

But what really annoyed Matthews was Obama constantly talking today about finding common ground with Republicans. “Dammit, you cannot run a government on common ground!” Matthews cried. “He misses the point of politics, which is to be a politician and to trade.”

Matthews also observed that Obama is in a bubble where he just “plays to his constituency and acts like there’s no other world out there.”
