Congresswoman Maxine Waters responded again this morning to President Trump going after her at a recent rally.
Trump trashed Waters again after she said that Trump administration officials should be publicly harassed. At his rally, the President asked, “Can you imagine seriously if I said that, or somebody else said that?”
The California Democrat briefly addressed the death threats she’s received to Joy Reid before responding directly to what Trump said about her:
“I was blessed with courage. And I was blessed with the kind of strength that does not allow me to be intimidated by the likes of Donald Trump… You played several clips showing how violent he is and how he supports violence and why he calls other people names. And all of this extraordinary, outrageous activity of the President of the United States the likes of which we’ve never seen before. So I am prepared for him. Again, I’m not intimidated by him. I think he does not deserve to be the President of the United States.”
At one point, Reid brought up the criticism she’s received from Democratic leaders, particularly rebukes from both Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer.
Waters admitted she was a little “surprised” by Schumer in particular speaking up, but said she understands that “leadership… will do anything that they think is necessary to protect their leadership.” The focus, she said, should instead be on the children being held in detention centers.
