McCain: Dems Governed by ‘Newer Members’ Will Pay ‘Heavy Price’ for Nuclear Option

After failing to negotiate a compromise with Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) to avert the “nuclear option” which reforms the filibuster rules which Republicans used to block President Barack Obama’s judicial nominees, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) told reporters that Democrats will regret changing the rules of the Senate without GOP consent. He said that Senate Democrats are “governed by their newer members” and will pay a “heavy price” for invoking the nuclear option.

“Over the last two weeks, I’ve reached out to him,” McCain told reporters of his last ditch efforts to prevent Democrats appealing to the nuclear option. “I spent an hour in Harry Reid’s office. Come on. I’ve reached until my arm aches, okay?”

“They’re governed by these hard-over, newer members of the Democratic Senators who have never been in a minority who are primarily driving this issue,” McCain said of the Democrats. “They succeeded and they will pay a very, very heavy price for it.”
