McConnell Scolds Dems For Health Care Disaster: ‘Democrats Were Celebrating Last Night’
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell tore into Senate Democrats today in response to last night’s implosion of the GOP health care bill.
McConnell addressed the Senate floor on Tuesday by talking about how Obamacare is a failure that will harm more Americans the longer it remains in effect. McConnell talked about how regrettable it was that the latest repeal and replace effort collapsed, though he promised to find a new way to make it happen.
As he discussed his new plan to repeal Obamacare and come up with a replacement later, McConnell said the bill failed due to a lack of cooperation from Senate Democrats:
“I imagine many Democrats were celebrating last night. I hope they consider what they’re celebrating. The American people are hurting, they need relief, and it’s regretful that our Democratic colleagues decided early on that they did not want to engage with us seriously in the process to deliver that relief.”
The GOP health bill seemed to fall apart on Monday after Republican senators Mike Lee and Jerry Moran announced their opposition to it.
