Media Critic David Zurawik: Obama’s Actions Against the Press Are Worse Than Trump’s Words So Far

Baltimore Sun media critic David Zurawik said on CNN’s Reliable Sources this morning that as bad as President Trump‘s verbal attacks on the press are, President Obama‘s actions against the press have so far been worse.

He told Brian Stelter that the press pushback to Trump has been getting “hysterical” in some places, and the idea that this is the “worst war on the press ever” is a little overblown when “he hasn’t even done what Obama’s done” yet.

Stelter pointed out that Trump’s rhetoric can be troubling, like when he called press outlets the “enemy of the people.”

Zurawik––who made it clear he wasn’t defending Trump––insisted that “actions are what matter,” saying that what the Obama administration did to James Rosen and James Risen were “far worse.”
