Media Matters Founder: We Only Targeted Attkisson Because of ‘Pattern of Misinformation’

Last week on CNN’s Reliable Sources, Sharyl Attkisson suggested that Media Matters may have been paid off to target her. Media Matters founder David Brock responded on Reliable Sources yesterday, pointing out that not once did Attkisson refute any of the facts in their pieces on her work.

Brian Stelter asked specifically if Media Matters gets donations and then will “explicitly target a single individual because of that donation.” Brock denied that charged outright, saying that Media Matters’ donors want “fact-based journalism,” and that Attkisson only showed up on their radar screen because they “noticed a pattern of misinformation in her work.”

Stelter also asked Brock about how many conservatives dismissively refer to Media Matters as a George Soros-funded organization. Brock said Soros’ donations account for less than ten percent of their budget and says they have no problem admitting they’re liberal, but “that doesn’t mean our facts are wrong.”
