Mediaite’s Colby Hall: Irresponsible for Ainsley Earhardt to ‘Undermine the Authority’ of the DOJ and FBI

Mediaite founding editor Colby Hall analyzed the turn away from the Russia probe to the investigation of the investigators, egged on by President Donald Trump and his media allies.

Hall noted a “shocking” suggestion from Joe diGenova on Fox News Tuesday night that John Brennan, the former CIA director, is going to go to prison for his role in the investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia.

Hall argued the appearance from diGenova gives “momentum to this conspiracy theory” about the origins of the investigation, which ended up being echoed on Fox & Friends host Ainsley Earhardt Wednesday morning.

“Why don’t we trust the DOJ? Why don’t we trust the FBI?” Earhardt asked during a segment on the Trump-Russia investigation.

“She basically is saying that she doesn’t… trust the DOJ or the FBI,” Hall said. “Which is a stunning flip. It used to be that the progressive, liberal side used to come down on the G-men, said that they didn’t trust legal authorities. But now you see it on the right. And it’s really — I think, this is my opinion — irresponsible to really sow dissent and undermine the authority of really important legal institutions like the DOJ and the FBI.”

Hall finished by suggesting that the investigation into the origins of the Russian probe is a political gift from Attorney General William Barr to President Donald Trump, who can now use this investigation as a tool to undermine the Mueller Report as he campaigns for reelection in 2020.
