In one of those interrupt-a-thons that so endear punditry to the viewership, a Meet the Press segment on Hillary Clinton’s emails descended into chaos between MSNBC host Joe Scarborough and Clinton representative Neera Tanden.
The discussion followed news that Clinton had wiped her personal email server clean, according to House Select Committee on Benghazi chair Trey Gowdy (R-SC). Host Chuck Todd said it made sense politically, but perhaps not optically.
“The e-mails were under subpoena at the time she destroyed them!” Scarborough objected. “Saying it makes perfect sense is like Pat Buchanan still saying it makes perfect sense that Nixon should have burned the tapes.”
“I think the fact that we’re obsessed with this scandal is the thing that people hate about Washington,” Tanden said.
“We’re not obsessed about it, we’re just asking a question,” Scarborough said.
Todd at the point somewhat lost control of the panel, as Scarborough shouted over Tanden’s attempts to defend Clinton’s submission of her emails. “We can’t go into overtime,” Todd said. “We will continue this on Periscope or Meerkat.”
