Longtime watchers of The View know that Meghan McCain doesn’t suffer fools gladly.

And after the in-studio audience applauded Sunny Hostin‘s harsh criticism of soon-to-be-former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, McCain called out the crowd in the exact awkwardly tense moment that makes The View such a curious and must-see watch for Mediaite editors looking for content.

Since President Donald Trump announced over the weekend that Kelly would be stepping down as his Chief of Staff, a robust debate has spawned about his disciplined approach to managing the White House. Critics claim he did little to manage Trump’s nontraditional approach to being Commander in Chief, while others suggest that it could have/would have been much worse without Kelly’s moderating influence.

Count Hostin as part of the former side of that debate, as she reminded viewers of what she deemed to be Kelly’s less attractive attributes. “He said the civil war was due to a lack of compromise,” she offered, adding, “When I look at the things he did during the administration, that’s what I will remember him not saying everyone, with you I will, especially when he disparaged a congresswoman, lied about her and then refused to apologize.”

McCain took immediate issue with the in-studio reaction, interjecting “I think it’s weird to be clapping.” She added, “Whatever you think about

his politics, he lost his son in combat for freedom, and clapping in that way, again, your call: Everyone can interpret him differently.

“Some things that precede politics and losing a son and being part of a Gold Star family is one of those things.”

The body language between Hostin and McCain after this exchange tells viewers everything they need to know about how these two feel about this issue.
