Megyn Kelly and Donald Trump exchanged brief pleasantries at tonight’s Fox News Republican debate before she asked her first question of the GOP frontrunner.
And it was on the issue of immigration and his off-the-record New York Times conversation in which Trump allegedly professed his “flexibility” on the issue.
Kelly asked him if he would release the audio. Trump said he wouldn’t want to disrespect journalists by releasing off-the-record conversations. He argued that a president needs “some flexibility” to make deals, as opposed to someone like Ted Cruz refusing to budge.
Kelly kept confronting him on the issue and, after the commercial break, she kept going, calling him out for changing his position on one particular issue.
She asked him if he’s just “playing to people’s fantasies” by talking so tough on immigration before negotiating later on.
