Megyn Kelly talked with her old friend Bill Burton on tonight’s Kelly File, grilling the former Obama spokesman on Hillary Clinton‘s availability to the press since her nascent campaign was launched on Sunday.
Kelly floated the idea that Clinton’s communications team might not want her to speak as much with the press as Barack Obama did during his first presidential campaign.
Burton said Obama took heat for the same issue, but Kelly countered that at least the then-senator did some interviews — Clinton has not done any so far. But Burton came back immediately with the fact that her campaign is just a few days old.
Burton said the strategy employed by GOP candidate Rand Paul of talking to the press immediately after announcing his campaign might have backfired on him.
“He got man-handled by Savannah Guthrie, one of the smartest but also nicest people in the news media,” Burton said. “I don’t think that his team feels like they treated him well by putting him out to do all those interviews, and that’s what happens when you’re not smart about your strategy.”
Burton ultimately said he expects the press — and the American people — will see a lot of Hillary Clinton in the coming months.
