Remember when Megyn Kelly was getting stick for rumors she would interview the Kardashians to kick off her new show? Well now she’s in St. Petersburg, where she will be interviewing the most powerful person in Eastern Hemisphere.
Kelly will christen her new NBC Sunday show with an interview with Russian president Vladimir Putin, set to air June 4 at 6 p.m.
“So we just got word this morning that President Putin has agreed to sit with yours truly for a one-on-one interview,” Kelly said in an appearance on the Today show on Thursday.
Cynics might allege that the flak Kelly received for her Kardashian interview could have prompted the anchor to seek a more groundbreaking inaugural guest, and that snagging Putin at the buzzer-beater is a pure stroke of luck (with a little help from NBC chief Andy Lack, who reportedly traveled to Russia to grease the wheels).
Nonetheless, Kelly is currently in St. Petersburg, set to moderate a panel at the International Economic Forum with the Russian president on Friday, before sitting down for a one-on-one with him.
“I’ll get the chance to ask him directly about these allegations of meddling, and the prospect of our two countries working together, and beyond,” Kelly continued. “So that oughta be fun!”
