Melania Trump’s Immigration Lawyer Slams Child Separation on Fox & Friends: It’s Like Nazi Germany, Slave Trade
Melania Trump‘s immigration lawyer took part in a focus group on Fox & Friends to discuss President Donald Trump‘s migrant policy, and tore into the separation of migrant children from their parents at the southern border in a fiery monologue.
Michael Wildes helped Melania Trump and her parents to get immigration status in the United States, years before her husband would launch a bid for the presidency on an ardent anti-immigration platform.
“The inhumanity of what we’re seeing, in separating, goes against the very ethos of our founding documents and fathers,” Wildes said on Fox & Friends, before explaining the current system:
Children are separated because this president has decided that he is going to hold the letter of the law. He is going to put people first into the federal criminal system. When a parent is introduced to the federal criminal system, by certain consent decrees, children have to be placed in the Health and Human Services division and they’re quarantined until parents come out. If they’re given ‘credible fear’ interview for asylum, if they’ve reentered the United States after being deported, there are different kinds of dispositions.
“In the end, it’s really a matter of priorities,” Wildes said. “When our founding fathers fought the pirates on the high seas, we didn’t lose the moral compass what it is to be American.”
“When we’re dealing with this challenge, we should not be quarantining our children from parents,” he continued. “The inhumanity of what we see is reminiscent of detention centers of Nazi Germany, of the slave trade. We can do better when we try to figure out this problem. Let’s not forget, this problem needs to be fixed because the greatest risk-takers and greatest entrepreneurs historically have been immigrants this country.”
David Webb, a talk show host and Fox News contributor, spoke next, called those remarks “disgusting.”
