Using the hashtag #MHPapology, MSNBC weekend host Melissa Harris-Perry tweeted an apology to the Romney family Tuesday morning.
The apology stems from a Sunday segment of Melissa Harris-Perry, in which several panelists mocked a photo of former presidential candidate Mitt Romney with his adopted African-American grandson, causing a torrent of outrage yesterday.
Harris-Perry’s apology follows several questionable “apologies” from the other panelists yesterday.
UPDATE 12:45 p.m.: Harris-Perry added an additional apology on her website. Via MSNBC:
On Sunday’s program, we showed a photo of Governor Romney holding his adopted grandson, who is African-American.
The intent of featuring the photo was to celebrate it— I often speak to the issue of the increasingly diverse American family.
Whatever the intent, the segment proceeded in an unexpected way that was offensive. Without reservation or qualification, I apologize to the Romney family and to all families built on loving transracial adoptions.
