Michael Cohen’s Lawyer Lanny Davis: When Tape Comes Out, ‘It Will Not Hurt’ Cohen…
On a day when the newly revealed recording of President Donald Trump and former Trump lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen dominated the headlines, Cohen’s own lawyer weighed in to make it clear that the words on the tape “will not hurt” his client.
He did not say what they meant for Trump.
“Obviously, there is an ongoing investigation, and we are sensitive to that. But suffice it to say that when the recording is heard, it will not hurt @MichaelCohen212. Any attempt at spin cannot change what is on the tape,” the former White House counsel tweeted out Friday afternoon.
CNN’s Gloria Borger also spoke to Davis, who told her, as first reported, “Obviously, there is an ongoing investigation and we are sensitive to that. But suffice it to say that when the recording that’s been widely reported is heard it won’t hurt Mr. Cohen and any attempt to spin cannot change what is on the table.”
A few minutes later Davis contacted Borger, who then corrected the last line of the statement to read “what is on the tape.”
According to the Los Angeles Times, who cited a person close the case, the conversation about Karen McDougal “is the only tape seized by authorities that involves a substantive conversation with the president.”
Stormy Daniels‘ lawyer Michael Avenatti told CNN on Friday the tape spelled big trouble for both Cohen and Avenatti.
