In a Thanksgiving Eve interview on MSNBC, documentarian Michael Moore responded to President Donald Trump‘s tweet questioning global warming because it happens to be really cold in parts of the United States right now.
Earlier today, Trump tweeted out, “Brutal and Extended Cold Blast could shatter ALL RECORDS – Whatever happened to Global Warming?”
Asked about Trump’s tweet by MSNBC’s Ali Velshi, Moore started off by saying that is par for the course for the billionaire president.
“We have a billionaire for president, and he’s for anything that benefits the wealthy. That’s his job. That’s what he’s supposed to advocate for,” Moore said, before encouraging everyday Americans to try to convince their conservative relatives that talk of climate change is not just to benefit liberals.
“We’re not just doing it for our people, for the Democrats,” he continued on, speaking of things to help change conservative minds on climate change. “You’re going to benefit from this, too. You should come along with this because it benefits you.”
Moore then said Trump’s tweets used to be funny but not anymore.
“And it was I guess funny to some people at first, and then it went to shaking our heads like can you believe this,” Moore continued on. “And now it’s like, wow, I think everybody’s realized with him essentially sanctioning the murder of The Washington Post journalist, saying that, saying that about the troops this week, saying that about Admiral McRaven, all of this I think is starting to dawn on people.”
He then added Trump voters in rural areas thought he’d be a molotov cocktail they could “throw into the system.”
“Well, he’s helped to blow up pieces of our democracy, and it hasn’t benefitted anybody,” Moore concluded. “And nobody’s made any money off his tax cut.”
