Michelle Wolf and Meghan McCain Battle Over WHCD: Your Routine Was ‘Gift’ to Trump

Michelle Wolf appeared on The View this morning weeks after her much-talked-about White House Correspondents Dinner speech, and she defended the jokes she made that people really didn’t like.

Regarding her joke about Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Wolf said her reaction to people thinking it was a dig at her looks was “I thought you were smarter.”

“Just listen to the joke,” she added. “I think it said more about them.”

In response to media criticism about that joke at the time, Wolf said, “Why are you guys making this about Sarah’s looks? I said she burns facts and uses the ash to create a *perfect* smoky eye. I complimented her eye makeup and her ingenuity of materials.”

Meghan McCain had said that the WHCD “is a big gift to Trump supporters,” and she reiterated her point to Wolf this morning:

“I actually said that I thought your stand-up routine was a gift to the Trump administration in that liberals were criticizing you as well. The association is now saying that it’s considering having no comedians whatsoever in the future. How would you feel if you killed another comedian’s job?”

“I mean, I don’t care,” Wolf bluntly responded. “It’s not like a great job.”

As far as the “gift to Trump” suggestion, Wolf said, “I don’t think it was a gift to Trump any more than every single news show––and I put that in quotes, ‘news’––is a gift to Trump.”

McCain asked Wolf if she spoke to Huckabee Sanders afterwards. Wolf said, “I smiled at her and she looked away.”
