Mika Brzezinski Slams DHS Head Nielsen’s Defense of Trump’s ‘Cruel’ Migrant Policy: She Failed ‘Miserably’
On Tuesday, Mika Brzezinski took aim at the Trump Administration’s mixed messaging as they continue to justify their policy of separating migrant children from their parents at the U.S. southern border.
The Morning Joe host went over the different ways President Trump, Kirstjen Nielsen and Jeff Sessions have tried to rationalize or explain the current White House policy. Brzezinski honed in on the Secretary of Homeland Security though, saying she was “extremely confused” and “[failed] miserably” when she tried answering questions yesterday at the White House press briefing.
“Ripping children from their parents is cruel,” Brzezinski said. “It’s inhumane and it’s weakening our nation’s standing around the world.”
As Brzezinski picked Nielsen’s press scrum apart point by point, she eventually arrived at the point where Nielsen clearly diverged from Sessions by insisting that the border policy is not meant to be a “deterrent” to send a message to migrants. This led to Brzezinski condemning Nielsen for using migrant children as pawns (even though the White House insists otherwise), and for ignoring the evidence that children are being traumatized by the separation from their families.
