DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz appeared on Morning Joe this morning to talk midterms, and Mika Brzezinski put her on the hot seat over why so many Democrats are running far away from President Obama and not touting any of his successes in office on the campaign trail.
Wasserman-Schultz downplayed expectations for a possible Democratic retaking of the House, and repeatedly emphasized how “extreme” the GOP has become in the last few years.
Brzezinski brought up a lot of Democrats’ “wishy-washy answers” on their relationship with the president, and asked how they could be “falling for kind of the easiest trick in the book” by running away from Obama’s record instead of on it. Wasserman-Schultz did not directly answer, instead blaming Republicans for distracting the nation from their own record.
Joe Scarborough, meanwhile, tried to get a straight answer from Wasserman-Schultz on whether a vote for any Democrat is a vote for Obama’s agenda (as the president himself basically said weeks ago). Wasserman-Schultz just said, “They’re voting for someone who has their back.”
