Mike Huckabee on the 19 Duggar Kids: ’18 Turned Out Pretty Darn Well’
Just in case y’all forgot about Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee‘s close connections to the Duggar family, John Harwood made sure to ask the former Arkansas governor about them on Speakeasy.
The two discussed everything from Wall Street to morality, at which point Harwood broached 19 Kids and Counting‘s cancellation by TLC following accusations of molestation that were levied against Josh Duggar. Since Huckabee hadn’t spoken publicly on the manner since he defended the family on The Kelly File with Megyn Kelly in June, Harwood asked: “Do you feel at all sheepish about the passage in your book where you said that the Duggar family was a model of everything that was good and decent about family?”
“Well out of 19 kids, as far as we know, 18 turned out pretty darn well,” said Huckabee. “That’s a pretty good percentage.”
When Harwood pressed the point further, noting that many would think Huckabee a “hypocrite” for sticking by the Duggars’ side while renouncing homosexuality and same-sex marriage, Huckabee stood firm.
“I’m not going to defend anything of Josh. Nothing to defend,” Huckabee replied. “But I don’t think you can disparage the entire family because one of the members did some pretty bad things.”
