Mike Huckabee on Whether Trump Will Press Putin on Election Meddling: ‘Words Don’t Really Matter That Much’

Mike Huckabee was asked on Fox News Monday morning whether President Donald Trump would press Vladimir Putin on Russian meddling in the 2016 election… and Huckabee wasn’t particularly reassuring.

After the former Arkansas governor claimed Trump isn’t a “wallflower” in private meetings, and will go into this showdown with “blunt force.”

Fox News Bill Hemmer was incredulous, asking Huckabee whether Trump would be tough on Putin in light of Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s indictment of 12 Russian intelligence officers over election meddling.

Trump perceives the topic of Russian meddling in the U.S. election as a means of questioning the legitimacy of his 2016 win, often downplaying its severity.

“He’s going to verbally say this is unacceptable,” Huckabee maintained, before noting that Putin didn’t care when President Obama told him to cut out meddling during the 2016 campaign.

“I think he’s going to do it with actions,” Huckabee said of Trump. “His words don’t really matter that much — Putin doesn’t care.”

Huckabee argued Putin cares about actions, including sanctions, the expulsion of diplomats, and military action in Syria.
