Mike Pompeo Defends Handling of Jamal Khashoggi Killing: ‘America’s Not Covering Up For a Murder’

State Secretary Mike Pompeo pushed back on speculation surrounding the United States’ involvement with Saudi Arabia, insisting the U.S. is “not covering up” for former Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi‘s murder.

“America’s not covering up for a murder. America’s taken more action in response to the tragic murder of Jamal Khashoggi, and will continue to take more actions and continue our investigation,” Pompeo told reporters during a press gaggle in Budapest, Hungary.

Reporters, who had followed the Secretary to Budapest for his meetings, grilled¬†him over Senator Tim Kaine‘s (D-VA) accusation that the Trump administration had turned a “blind eye” on evidence that Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman was involved in Khashoggi’s death.

“Senator¬†Kaine is just dead wrong. He’s just flat-out wrong,” Pompeo said.
