Miss Iowa’s Q&A Gaffe: Marijuana Should Not Be Used For ‘Anything But Recreational Use In Health Care’

Although she didn’t nab the Miss America crown, Miss Iowa, Mariah Cary, may be the most talked about contestant today. Why would a fourth runner up cause so much controversy? Cary accidentally said that she didn’t believe marijuana should be used for “anything but recreational use in health care.”

Cary, who suffers from Tourette’s syndrome, was asked whether she thought it was the “right direction” for the country to legalize recreational use of the drug. Her answer made clear that she only supported marijuana for medical use, but clearly misspoke and may have misunderstood the question.

“I think that depends on the situation,” she said. “I personally know people who have had to go to medical marijuana for their last resort, for their health care and I completely agree with that.”

“However, I don’t think it should be used for anything but recreational use in health care.”
