Missouri Gov.: Ferguson Looks Like ‘War Zone and That’s Unacceptable’
Missouri Governor Jay Nixon spoke today on the ensuing chaos in Ferguson. He spoke on Michael Brown, who he described as “not much younger than my own sons,” and addressed concerns over militarization of the police that unfolded in a big way last night.
Nixon said he’s spoken to residents, who’ve said “they want the streets to be free of intimidation and fear.” He assured he wants to make sure Ferguson is a safe place for everyone living there.
And as for the police presence, the governor admitted it might have gotten out of hand somewhat.
“This is a place where people work, go to school, raise families, go to church. A diverse community. A Missouri community. But lately it’s looked a little bit more like a war zone and that’s unacceptable.”
Nixon announced that Missouri Highway Patrol will be taking over security in Ferguson.
