Morning Joe Rails Against Trump’s Trade War With China: ‘Smart Jeb’ Bush Was Right

Morning Joe lamented the demise of former presidential candidate Jeb “Jeb!” Bush on Friday, making the case that had the political scion was right when he predicted Donald Trump would lead us into a trade war with China.

“China is hitting back after President Trump appeared to raise the stakes,” Mika Brzezinski said.

“It’s such a surprise,” Joe Scarborough joked.

“Who could imagine that we would be put in this terrible position?” Brzezinski said, before explaining the latest tit for tat trade dispute between the two countries: China threatened retaliation after Trump proposed an additional $100 billion in tariffs on Chinese goods.

That came after China slapped tariffs on 106 American goods, from whiskey to airplanes, in retaliation to Trump proposing duties on thousands of Chinese products.

“Wait a second,” Scarborough said. “Jeb Bush predicted that two years ago.

“Low energy Jeb or…?”

“Smart Jeb who thinks and knows how to govern and cares about this country and is a patriot,” Brzezinski said. “That Jeb.”

“That Jeb,” Scarborough agreed.

Weep not for Morning Joe, for at least they have Republican Sen. Ben Sasse, who issued this statement about Trump’s proposal:

“Hopefully the President is just blowing off steam again but, if he’s even half-serious, this is nuts. China is guilty of many things, but the President has no actual plan to win right now.” he said. “He’s threatening to light American agriculture on fire. Let’s absolutely take on Chinese bad behavior, but with a plan that punishes them instead of us. This is the dumbest possible way to do this.”

“The senator said it effectively enough, this is the dumbest thing he could do,” Scarborough concurred.
