Morning Joe Blasts AOC: ‘Shocking How Little She Understands’ About Economics and Unemployment

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is not just a lightning rod of criticism for Fox News hosts and personalities. She is also earning ridicule on what is typically more friendly cable news confines: MSNBC’s Morning Joe, who laced into the newly elected Congresswoman over her reaction to news that Amazon had pulled plans to build a second headquarters in Queens, New York.

Amazon nixed plans to expand in New York city amidst controversy that the wildly successful and influential corporation was getting significant tax cuts from New York state and city, a controversy that was amplified by Ocascio-Cortez, who finds herself with a suddenly and remarkably powerful platform, both via her Twitter feed and a cable news industry that seems to amplify every word she utters publicly.

But the Morning Joe panel seems unimpressed with AOC’s understanding of the underlying economics. The criticism started cautiously, with host Joe Scarborough ostensibly introducing the segment without naming the recently elected congresswoman by name. “New York City wasn’t handing cash to Amazon. It was an incentive program based on job creation producing tax revenue,” Scarborough said, adding “There isn’t a $3 billion pile of money that can now be spent on subways or education.”

But Donny Deutsch played his role of the “bull in a china shop” and openly invited AOC to criticize him on Twitter, because, that would likely promote his brand. Deutsch made his concerns plain, saying “we are in a dangerous place and if people in the party doesn’t start to speak up against people like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who is young and dynamic but does not know what she’s talking about, they’re going to hand the presidency back to Donald Trump.”

But it was Susan Del Percio dropped the most significant diss of Rep. Ocascio-Cortez, saying  “What’s shocking to me is once again she shows how little she understands not just economics but even unemployment. She’s the one who said the reason unemployment is so low is because a lot of people have two jobs. She needs to learn basic things about what it is to be a representative.”

Mika Brzezinski ended the pile-on in a nice-but-not-nice manner, saying ” I watch AOC with a lot of hope but I’m cringing, and I would love to give her some advice.”
