A firestorm of controversy erupted last week when Molly West, the daughter of George Zimmerman attorney Don West, posted a picture of her and her family enjoying ice cream and called them “We beat stupidity celebration cones.” The photo, published the day West cross examined prosecution witness Rachel Jeantel, offended many and prompted West to issue an apology. On Tuesday, MSNBC contributor Goldie Taylor called that picture an “unfortunate incident,” but added that it has no bearing on the case and should not become a focus of scandal.
“I would not want to be held responsible for my children’s social media account,” Taylor opined. “I have grown children who have accounts — Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, you name it. I would not want to be responsible and called into account for what my children do.”
“I think it is an unfortunate incident but one that should not have a bearing on the case going forward,” she continued. “What ought to have bearing on this case are the facts of the matter and how Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman encountered each other that evening.”
