MSNBC Interviews Elmo, Informs Us He Is, Indeed, ‘Decidedly Apolitical’
As Sesame Street continues to be an unwilling participant in the political arena, MSNBC sought to bring us some more details on Wednesday morning when Chris Jansing interviewed Elmo. The pair chatted on a stoop about Elmo’s new “President the Musical” — and Jansing confirmed that the lovable Sesame Street character is, indeed, “apolitical.” Bet you didn’t see that one coming.
Asked about the musical, Elmo replied that he had a lot of fun, and even got to wear a suit! “Elmo didn’t live in the White House,” he told Jansing. “Elmo lived in the Red House.”
Because he could change it to whatever color he wanted — and red happens to be his favorite. Asked about a first lady, Elmo said he had three first ladies. Jansing replied, “You know what they call that, don’t you? Bigamist.” It was “just imagination,” he added. Indeed, Elmo isn’t married.
The pair then also talked about Elmo’s good friend Velvet. You know, like a curtain.
Back in the studio, Jansing noted, “I should point out that that interview was done before the debate. Elmo is decidedly apolitical, in spite of the fact, obviously, that he’s red.”
The more you know. (Or something.)
