MSNBC Labels GOP Rep ‘Father Indicted’ During Teaser on Unrelated Child Death

MSNBC on Thursday aired video footage of Republican U.S. Senate candidate Cory Gardner during a segment tease about a Georgia man who is being accused of leaving his child in a hot car to die.

Gardner, currently a congressman running for the Senate out of Colorado, is not accused of any such crime.

The mishap occurred during NewsNation with Tamron Hall.

As Hall headed into a commercial break, she teased a story related to a Georgia man accused of purposely leaving his child in a car to die of heat exhaustion. As Hall read the script of the story, footage of Gardner aired simultaneously.

The caption “FATHER INDICTED” appeared over Gardner’s image.

At the publication of this post, MSNBC has not issued a correction.

UPDATE — 4:06 p.m. ET:: MSNBC issues this apology:

The NewsNation staff deeply regrets video featuring Republican candidate Cory Gardner, a woman, and several audience members, aired when it should not have. This was inadvertent and we apologize for the mistake.
