MSNBC’s ‘Deadline’ Rips White House Officials For ‘Self Serving’ Criticisms of Trump: ‘It’s B.S.’
On Wednesday, the New York Times published an anonymous op-ed from a senior Trump administration official.
It read: “I work for the president but like-minded colleagues and I have vowed to thwart parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.”
Discussing the scathing op-ed during an MSNBC panel shortly after it was published, host Nicolle Wallace and others on the panel expressed their shock at the contents of the opinion piece, including questioning of the president’s stability.
Yet, at one point they also noted that like other White House staffers who have come up to reporters with scandalous tidbits, there is also a bit of credit seeking going on among those who spill anonymously in the name of the country but remain on their job “collecting those paychecks.”
AP’s Jonathon Lemire noted that he has conversations all the time with staffers who say things like, “Hey, you think that was bad, I threw my body in front of it. It could have been far, far worse.”
Wallace added: “They want credit. They want you to say, well you think that thing he said about Mika’s facelift was nasty, you should have seen what was in the feed — they want medals. They want to be held out as protectors of civility. It’s B.S.”.
“It is self-serving,” he said. “I think for some people in the building — that’s how they justify that they keep those jobs, that they keep going to the White House collecting those paychecks. They feel like they’re doing their duty to country, yes, but they feel like hey, I’m making a difference here.”
