MSNBC’s Ruhle Bashes Trump’s Foreign Policy Messes: Pompeo ‘Being Handed a Garbage Sandwich’
On Tuesday, MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle said that Mike Pompeo‘s job as Secretary of State usually boils down to cleaning up the messes Donald Trump makes with international policy.
Ruhle used a portion of her show to address the new intelligence reports saying North Korea is still developing advanced ICBMs, even as Pompeo continues to insist he’s making diplomatic progress on the Korean Peninsula’s denuclearization. As she talked about this development with her panel, Ruhle questioned whether Trump’s private summits with international strongmen are actually of any use for his administration’s negotiations with hostile nations.
“Are the president’s one-on-one meetings with these leaders making it easier or harder for his team?” Ruhle asked. “Do you guys remember when Mike Pompeo first went and had that surprise meeting in North Korea? And across the board people said what a great development? Since then he has been handed a garbage sandwich, and he has to clean up so much.”
Bloomberg opinion editor Tim O’Brien said this shouldn’t surprise political observers since Trump is more interested in consolidating his own power and cult of personality, rather than legislate.
