MSNBC’s Touré Praises Obama’s Zimmerman Speech: ‘Wow! We Really Do Have A Black President’

Shortly after President Obama finished delivering his surprise remarks on the George Zimmerman verdict from the White House briefing room, MSNBC’s Touré joined Andrea Mitchell to offer his reaction to the speech. “Wow,” he told her, “we really do have a black president.”

“I’ve been thinking lately, do we actually have a black president or a president who happens to be black?” Touré asked. “There have been very few moments and very few, if any, policies that have made a difference that you might hope for a black president to do. This moment was like, wow, we really do have a black president who will come out and lay it all out on the line.”

He went on to call Obama’s speech “a nuanced discussion of what it means to be black, not holding back from this notion that blacks don’t feel a full part of society, a really incredible historical moment.”

Mitchell closed out her show by saying to her viewers, “We’ve all just experienced something. I need to absorb it. So do you.”
