MSNBC’s Velshi and Hugh Hewitt Have Explosive Clash Over Trump’s Iran Policy: ‘Just Stop For Heaven’s Sake!’
Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt appeared on Velshi & Ruhle and things got heated with co-host Ali Velshi over what some might call Trump administration’s situational policies with various countries in the Middle East.
Hewitt was on to discuss his Washington Post column that defended the Trump administration’s approach to Iran in contrast to the Obama administration’s appeasement (which he presented as a failed approach). The piece included some hearty sucking up to national security adviser John Bolton, “whose clarity and intelligence have long cowed his opponents inside the Beltway,” Hewitt wrote.
Velshi opened the segment by mocking that particular phrase and calling Bolton a war hawk. But Hewitt did not demur, and instead doubled down on calling Iran “a theocracy run by a dictator,” that is “providing missiles to Hezbollah” among other actions that support his “rogue nation” assessment.
“I could say all this stuff about the Saudis,” Velshi shot back. “What’s changed?”
“I don’t think you could say they act like the Iranian regime. The Iranian regime exports chaos, they are terrorist organization,” Hewitt said.
But Velshi wasn’t having it, interrupting passionately by exclaiming: “Hugh Hewitt! Hugh! Just stop for heaven’s sake!” Velshi again noted that the very same descriptors Hewitt applied to Iran, also apply to Saudi Arabia, a monarchy with whom the Trump administration enjoys a very cozy relationship (despite their authorized assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.)
Then things sort of went south from there. Which you can watch above, via MSNBC.
