Must-See Late Night Clip: Leno Trains James Corden in Star-Studded Late Late Show Opening
Leno Trains James Corden in Star-Studded Late Late Show Opening
James Corden’s Late Late Show premiere opened strong Monday night with an elaborate parody of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in which everyone from Joel McHale to Chris Rock to Chelsea Handler vied for the coveted late night host slot before it finally fell in the largely unknown British actor’s lap.
From there, the sketch transformed into a training montage with Jay Leno taking on the role of Whiplash’s J.K. Simmons and Arnold Schwarzenegger handling strength-training. And just when it looked like Corden might not be ready, an angel in the form of his Into the Woods co-star Meryl Streep helped pull him back from the brink.
Just as Jimmy Fallon proved he has way too many famous friends in his Tonight Show premiere last year, Corden, who hosted Tom Hanks and Mila Kunis for his first show, demonstrated that he too can pull out all the stops when needed.
