Nancy Pelosi Accuses Trump of Rescheduling SCOTUS Pick to Distract From Travel Ban Backlash
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi charged during her CNN town hall Tuesday night that President Donald Trump rescheduled his Supreme Court pick in an effort to blunt the momentum of negative stories about his travel ban from seven countries.
Originally, Trump’s announcement was scheduled for Thursday before being suddenly bumped up to Tuesday at 8 P.M. Pelosi opened the town hall by joking that the announcement of the Neil Gorsuch nomination an hour earlier was rescheduled to “upstage” her.
But later, she gave her actual opinion. “How and why they did this is because they’re grand illusionists. Any time they have a problem with something, they create another problem,” she told the audience.
“They see the immigration problem looming and so they decide they will on an earlier schedule appoint a justice of the Supreme Court, always to change the subject. It’s a decoy, decoy, decoy,” Pelosi said.
When asked the reason for the rescheduling during the daily press conference Monday, White House press secretary Sean Spicer told reporters that Trump simply felt like it.
