Nancy Pelosi has a message for Republicans that she hopes will allow Washington to go back to the cooperative way it used to be: “Take back your party.” The GOP has changed and according to Pelosi, has become the “over the edge” crowd.
Pelosi appeared on CBS’s Face The Nation Sunday and told host Bob Schieffer that when George W. Bush was president and she was Speaker Of The house, things were different. “We worked together on a number of things,” she said. “We didn’t agree on the wars and we had other differences, but we worked together with the president.”
“What happened?” Schieffer asked.
According to Pelosi, a large factor in the change was that Republicans came in during Obama’s first term and said “the most important thing they could do was to make sure he did not succeed.” She noted that she found it “unfortunate” and went on to describe how the GOP today “isn’t the Grand Old Party that did so many things for America.” It used to command so much respect, Pelosi said, but now it is dominated by an element “that are antigovernment ideologues and are committed to not cooperating with this president.”
