NBC Developing Hillary Clinton Miniseries Starring Diane Lane, NBC News Backs Slowly Away…

As part of a “year of improvement” portfolio at the network, NBC announced Saturday morning that it was developing a miniseries about Hillary Clinton.

In the proposed series, Clinton would be played by Diane Lane, though the part of Bill has not yet been cast. And while no script is complete yet, NBC said it would air the series before Clinton’s likely 2016 presidential run got going.

The series is one of four major projects announced by NBC—including a remake of Rosemary’s Baby—meant to up the network’s cache, with NBC Entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt that the they “need to be in the event business…. All of (the new projects) have their own event nature.”

NBC’s news entities are already distancing themselves from the project:

This is not the first television event to be inspired by Clinton; Political Animals, the USA Network’s series starring Sigourney Weaver, is widely believed to be based on Clinton.
