NBC News’ Pete Williams Chokes Up While Reporting On News of Gwen Ifill’s Death
While reporting on the new that PBS’s Gwen Ifill passed away from cancer today at the age of 61, NBC News’ Pete Williams had a tough time composing himself.
Appearing on MSNBC this afternoon, Williams had to take a few seconds to get his emotions together while trying to discuss Ifill’s life and accomplishments.
Addressing host Stephanie Ruhle, Williams told her this “is tough duty here because Gwen was a dear friend, a former NBC colleague.” He then stopped for a moment to gather himself.
“Gwen would want me to get this together,” Williams said through tears. Williams was able to then go about delivering his report.
At the end, Williams stated that he wished “she was around to give us her insights,” referencing the “fascinating” political news that has occurred in the past week.
