“Roker scores impromptu Obama interview at parade,” read the glowing headline at NBC News’ website. And, yes, nation’s weatherman had the opportunity to speak with the President of the United States amid his second inaugural parade. It was an exclusive – the first interview the president has given a member of the media in his second term. So, what would you expect they would talk about? The weather, of course.
Upon review, “interview” is a loaded term to use for Al Roker’s interaction with President Barack Obama. Roker yelled repeatedly at the president who eventually responded with a wave.
“How’s it going?” Roker prodded.
At this point, the president made eye contact with Roker.
“How’s the weather?” Roker grilled.
He received a gesture towards the heavens and a thumbs up from the president.
… Yep. That’s it.
In fairness, Roker was needled by NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams to get something – anything — from the president, and Roker delivered. It’s hard to blame him for his, and NBC’s, enthusiasm.
