Neil Patrick Harris, Jack Black, and Anna Kendrick Open Oscars with Musical Tribute to Movies

Neil Patrick Harris opened Sunday evening’s 87th Academy Awards broadcast with an original musical tribute to moving pictures (“but maybe not Smurfs 2“), with help from Anna Kendrick and Jack Black.

Aside from the lengthy number, which included a CGI inserted Harris into iconic movie scenes from The Goonies, Ghost (creepily watching Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore make some clay pottery), the night’s host also kicked off the show with the broadcast’s first race joke: “Tonight we honor Hollywood’s best and whitest — sorry, best and brightest.”
